A Lesson From an Italian Lover of Life

“Attitude is everything, so pick a good one!”

“Is your glass half full or half empty?”

“A bad attitude is like a flat tire, if you don’t change it you’ll never go anywhere”

“Change I can’t into I can and pretty soon you will say… I did!”

We have all seen these quotes hundreds of times, but do we always heed this advice?

Our minds are so powerful to help us control our feelings and our actions, which inevitably becomes our results. It’s a good thing, well that is if you are happy with the way your life is.

 Our outer world is a direct reflection on how we look at life. One of my favorite examples of our mindset and attitude is from the movie; “Life is Beautiful” with Roberto Benigni. How do you help a little boy not see the horror of a horrific place – Auschwitz in WW 2? …You change his attitude and mindset. It was an amazing story of belief and the power of our minds. (and love♥)

I have to share with you the clip of when Roberto won the Oscar and he jumped on top of the seats to get to the stage! Here it is, go ahead and stop reading and watch this before you read on: Roberto receiving his Oscar!

It makes me emotional; I smile, I laugh and I cry… but most of all I believe. I believe in the power of our attitudes.

Why did this movie impact so many – including me? Well when we see someone who has taken life by the balls (so to speak) and says; ‘I am going to be happy, I choose to have fun, love, I’ll never give up and I choose to see the best of every circumstance!’… we not only get inspired but it touches something inside our hearts (that knows the truth) that we ultimately want that too.

What does that have to do with money? It all boils down to this;

‘Mindset’ {noun}: a set of beliefs or a way of thinking – that determines one’s behaviour, outlook and mental attitude.

 Money will always match your mindset.

Way too often (and it breaks my heart) I hear highly intelligent, caring, capable women expressing their circumstances with this statement;

“When it comes to money, I’m hopeless / incompetent / clueless and oh, also terrified.”

Sound like anybody you know? This is a case of a hard and fast (justified) money mindset.

Do you believe that your financial abilities are unchangeable and carved in stone?

Or is it that when money smarts were being handed out, you were busy taking care of someone or something else. You missed the boat, the lecture, or the ‘smart with money genes’ …You get the idea.

And just like I talked about in Part one of this series, those beliefs are usually followed up with;

“I just wish I didn’t have to think about money.” “If I look at my numbers then I have to do something about it.”

When do you contact me? You guessed it, after spending years doing exactly what you believed and accomplished… Trying NOT to think about money at the same time as worrying about it, or faking your way around it and trying to control it. You’re frustrated and worried, and stuck.

Enough already! I want you to experience an invaluable transformation in the way you ultimately deal with money. It’s time to have some fun!

 You CAN develop new skills in understanding, discussing, and handling your money. No more defending that part of your ego that says you can’t, or it’s too late or you’re not smart enough to mange your money.

Imagine…

  • Opening your bills and investment statements, reading them, and taking the appropriate action.
  • Setting set healthier limits with family members, clients, bosses, friends.
  • Asking for what you need (including raises, or payments on outstanding invoices)
  • Giving generously to causes that matter deeply to you.
  • Having fewer household fights around money.
  • Not be intimidated and feel more powerful in all areas of your life!

What’s keeping you from having a great relationship with money, in most cases, is simply a lack of belief that you can become financially successful. You must believe that you can do it, and you must take the actions necessary to achieve your goals.

We’ve come back around again to self-care which increases self-love, and self-love creates self-confidence. This has a direct impact on your ability to create your own financial security.

Let’s face it, when it comes to money, the unexpected will always happen. That’s life. But the goal is to be prepared not only financially, but mentally when those ‘out of the blue’ expenses show up!

This time you’ll be saying; “I got this!”

 That dysfunctional relationship with money, it all stems from your money mindset. Subconscious beliefs that you picked up as a kid, or you’ve learned along the way. And holding on to those beliefs that are not serving you… well, they are sabotaging your financial success.

Time for a little reprogramming…

Oh, and by the way, referring to Part 2 of the series

Don’t tell me what you value, show me your budget and I’ll tell you what you value.

If you want to stop working and retire or change careers, then do it. But don’t tell me you can’t do it because you go out to eat every night.

If you want to travel more, do it. But don’t tell me you can’t do it because you buy every premium channel and spend over $200 per month on cable.

Remember, we already talked about this… I know you’re ready to get rid of those excuses and start living your dreams.

Let’s look at this whole ‘money relationship’ with a more empowering mindset. Don’t buy into the b.s. stories of how you can’t. It just takes a little adjustment (or a lot- depending on where you are at!), but you can do this. I believe in you and I have watched hundreds do it before you.

:: Dare to operate from abundance instead of scarcity. (I actually double dare you!)

:: Don’t put off enjoying your life and your resources. Plan for your future but also live in the present. When you put off enjoyment to a future time, it’s like pushing away your current prosperity. A mindset built on postponing fun links your emotional happiness to your financial future, which is just wrong! ♥

:: Don’t expect money to solve all your problems. Money isn’t going to make your life feel more meaningful, or improve your relationships. Always remember that money only solves financial problems!

:: Let go of limiting financial beliefs such as, “money is the root of all evil” it will only block your prosperity. There is no shame in a modest lifestyle, but there is also nothing noble about lacking money or anything else. Instead have a mindset that allows you to be respectful of, but emotionally detached from money. You’ll make better decisions in every area of life.

:: Don’t be afraid to draw your own map. Scarcity is a contagious mindset. If you believe and want a better life than you have or your family and friends have, then you need to block out the negative feedback so you can learn to think and act differently than the struggling masses. It will blow you away what you can accomplish. (By the way – this is the best part of my coaching…watching you step into that life you only dreamed about!)

:: And lastly, spend some money on things that make you feel good. Follow a sensible plan that adds value to your life, but you also deserve to enjoy some of the fruits of your labor! You know the saying; ‘All work – no play makes Jane a dull girl!’

 When you do buy something that helps you feel good, you actually are encouraging a positive emotional response to money and feed your abundance mindset. When you feel better about yourself, you naturally tend to want to be and do better.

Please…Never allow yourself to be a slave to finances!

Dream big; take courageous steps; and believe you can… Oh, and keep some room in your heart for the unimaginable!

I’ll talk more about that next time… ‘Tapping into your hearts desires, setting goals and how to take action.’

Until then, be conscious of your thoughts, words and actions.

“If you think you can or you think you can’t – you’re right.”

Much love!
